Local businesses help our communities thrive. However, we all know that COVID has hit our favorite small businesses hard. While they already compete against the big box behemoths, now they have the extra stress of shut-downs, shifting to contactless service and reduced capacity.

Though marketing can’t save the day, it sure is helpful for small businesses struggling to get the word out. We talked to Sarah Barr, owner of Camp Hill-based Konhaus Print and Marketing, to get her top marketing tips for small businesses.

Get a professional logo – Having a professionally designed logo is huge for brand identity. While buying stock logos online can be tempting, it often ends with copyright issues. “Why would you want to have the same logo as someone else?” said Sarah. “Seek out a firm or local freelance graphic designer who can see your vision and make it a reality.”

Create videos – Videos are an engaging way to share with your audience that you are an expert in your industry. Featuring videos on your social media and website gives you extra visibility.

Speaking engagements – While in-person events are not possible currently, there are still plenty of virtual opportunities. Get in front of ideal prospects that will make you the expert in your field. Check with your local Chamber of Commerce to see if they can connect you with upcoming opportunities.

Create a customer referral or rewards program – This encourages your biggest advocates, your customers, to keep coming back for more, while referring new business!

Create a blog – Content is king. People are always on the hunt for industry experts. “Create a blog and link it back to your website,” said Sarah.” Not only does it help your Google ratings, it builds your brand and credibility.”

Print Collateral – This can often get overlooked. Make sure to always have professionally printed, well-designed pieces (business cards, rack cards, brochures) on hand. You never know where you might meet your next client. First impressions are everything!
